Sir Ashley Fox Visit

Sir Ashley Fox Visits Thomas Poole Library and Stowey Green Spaces

Sir Ashley Fox, MP for Bridgwater and Burnham, visited Nether Stowey and was warmly welcomed at the Thomas Poole Library.

Sir Ashley Fox was greeted at the library by Sian Stafford and Nigel Phillips. He expressed his admiration for the library’s facilities and the wide range of services it provides to the local community.

Visit purpose: Sir Ashley’s visit was to learn more about the Stowey Green Spaces Group (SGSG), whose members attended the meeting in their distinctive high‑viz jackets.

Roy Osborne thanked the library for hosting the meeting and summarised the areas in and around the Stoweys where SGSG carries out its work. Paul Brierley described the group’s regular activities, including monthly litter picks on the third Saturday of every month.

It was fitting that the meeting took place at the library, which organisers hope will become an information hub for local environmental groups and activities.

A tour of local sites

After the library visit, Sir Ashley went on to see Stowey Millennium Wood. He was shown how the Millennium Wood (including its extensions) and Stowey Wood form part of a nature-friendly farming corridor that runs from Stowey Rocks Organic Farm through New Stowey Farm — now managed by the Quantock Hills National Landscape — almost to Over Stowey and the fringes of the Quantock Hills.

If you would like more information about volunteering with Stowey Green Spaces Group or upcoming litter picks.
