Halloween The Dead Moon
An Evening with Dan Broadbent
For Halloween, join us for an evening of spooky storytelling for grown-ups and older children.
On 28th October, local storyteller and award-winning archaeologist Dan Broadbent will present an atmospheric retelling of the classic English folk tale, The Dead Moon. Also known as The Buried Moon, this strange story tells of the moon, descending from the sky in the form of a woman to illuminate the marshes, where local people live in fear of the horrors lurking in the darkness.
The tale has been interpreted by some scholars as evidence of pre-Christian moon worship, whilst others have questioned its veracity. Following the performance, Dan will lead a Q&A exploring the origins of the story. Is it really an ancient tale or, perhaps, a Victorian invention? Join us in October to find out.
